Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The North Columbia Business Association was established in 2008 to help rebuild and re-establish the image of the North Columbia community.
"We consider ourselves the gateway to downtown Columbia. From I-20 to I-77 we believe we are the gateway," said Donald Gist, a board member on NCBA.
Right now that gateway is filled with signs.
"Appearance is very significant when it comes to people wanting to make a decision when it comes to investment or coming to an area," said Councilman Sam Davis.
Council Davis says they are hoping those available signs will soon come down and businesses will fill those empty lots and buildings.
"We know there are new businesses looking in the area and folks are looking to do some things in the next few months," said Davis.
During Monday's meeting former chairman Tommy Burkett passed the gavel to Veronica Rodriquez.
Rodriquez is the President and CEO of Community Service Provider in North Columbia.
The board also announced they are endorsing the Bull Street development project.
"The development would create a whole renaissance and way of life for North Columbia," said Gist.
