SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley is visiting the South Carolina coast for the announcement of a $135 million health complex that will mean 1,500 jobs for the Summerville area.
Palmetto Health and Wellness announces plans Monday for the complex located on 28 acres off of Interstate 26.
The first phase of the project to be completed in two years includes two medical office buildings. There also will be an ambulatory surgery center, a 24-hour emergency unit and a fitness and rehabilitation center.
The developers say 75 percent of the jobs at the Palmetto Health project will be new jobs. The project is expected to help reduce medical costs by integrating medical, health and wellness services on one campus.
