Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Midlands has a chance to see a significant accumulation of ice Wednesday, and that means there's a chance of power outages.
The ice builds up on tree limbs causing them to snap and fall on power lines.
Because they know that, the power companies and electric cooperatives are getting prepared. They have gathered extra supplies and are on standby to help get the power restored.
Right now, they say it is hard to estimate how many outages we could see. They say if your power goes out call and report it and then be patient.
Here's a list of ways to report outages for the major service providers in the Midlands.
• Phone: 1-888-333-4465. You can also report a downed power line at this number.
• Mobile: Visit www.sceg.com/mobile and clicking on storm center.
• Text: Register for SCE&G's text option online at www.sceg.com. Simply login to your account and look for the "Activate Text Options" under the "Account Options" feature and then follow the instructions. If you are experiencing an outage, simply text the word "OUT" to 467234 (gosceg).
