Shelters, Warming Stations Opened

Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- The American Red Cross has opened four emergency shelters and placed four others on stand-by due to the winter storm.

The open shelters include:  

  • Clinton Public Safety, 404 N Broad St., Clinton, S.C. 29325
  • Cornerstone Community Church, 1481 Chestnut St., Orangeburg, S.C. 2911
  • Darlington Middle School, 150 Pinedale St., Darlington, S.C. 2953
  • Laurens City Police Department, 250 W. Laurens St., Laurens, S.C. 29360  

The shelters on standy-by are: 

  • Calhoun Convalescent Center, 601 Dantzler St., St. Matthews,  S.C. 29135
  • Hunter-Tyler Kinard Elementary School, 7706 Norway Road, Norway, S.C. 29113
  • Lake Marion High School, 3656 Tee Vee Rd., Santee, S.C. 29142
  • Orangeburg Wilkinson High School, 601 Bruin Parkway, Orangeburg S.C. 29115
The Red Cross also suggests using their free shelter app or going to their webpage for more information on shelters that are open.

In addition to the Red Cross shelters, the city of Columbia has opened two warming stations for those who are having heat troubles in their homes. They are located at Hyatt Park and King Park. The stations will be open Tuesday night and all day Wednesday.
