Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The Richland County Sheriff's Department is investigating two mace attacks just over two miles apart.
The first incident took place Sunday night at 9:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Longcreek Drive. Officers say when the victim got out of his car to go into his apartment, a suspect sprayed him in the face with mace and fled from the scene.
"His main motive was robbery, trying to steal personal belongings," said Sergeant Curtis Wilson with the sheriff's department.
Investigators say a similar incident happened just 15 minutes later on Zimalcrest Drive.
"The suspect maced the pregnant female victim and stole her pocketbook which contained cash and credit cards," said Sgt. Wilson.
News19 spoke with a resident in the apartment complex about safety in the area.
"I hear gunshots from time to time, it was way different than where I came from," said Dashiree Foreman.
Foreman moved from Charleston three years ago and doesn't have plans to move but is cautious especially at night.
"I like it here but sometimes things that happen get me scared," said Foreman. "Something could happen to me or even the baby. It is not violent all of the time but you just have to watch out."
