CHESTER, S.C. (AP) -- A teenager who's serving a 30-year sentence for killing his grandparents has filed a civil lawsuit against the state.
Christopher Pittman claims his lawyers were ineffective during his 2005 trial.
Pittman was 12 when his grandparents were killed. He was tried as an adult and convicted of two counts of murder.
In court documents, Pittman says his lawyers misadvised him and told him not to accept a plea deal that would have put him in prison for ten years. Pittman says he also wasn't advised of his Constitutional rights.
The court documents were filed last week in Chester County.
During the trial, Pittman's lawyers said he was under the influence of anti-depressants when he shot his grandparents.
