Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have arrested a business owner they say shot and killed a man outside his store.
Sidney Allen Hursey, 66, has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old Christopher Michael Reese.
The shooting took place Tuesday night outside Cowboy's Auction on Busbee Road near Gaston. Officers say Hursey owns the store, and that Reese and his girlfriend lived in a room at the business. According to investigators, Hursey and Reese got into a verbal argument that led to Hursey shooting Reese several times.
Investigators say they don't know why the men were arguing. Deputies received a call about the incident, and arrived to find Reese dead beside his vehicle, a Ford Bronco.
News 19 spoke with Brooke Reese, Christopher Michael Reese's brother, who's still trying to come to grips with what happened.
"I called my momma last night, and they told me my brother was shot four times, Reese said, "And he was dead." Reese said, "He was all I had besides my momma, because everybody else, is deceased. And now, somebody wants to take his life and put it in their own hands, and they had no right to do that."
Hursey was later arrested at his home. He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center while he waits for a bond hearing.
Deputies found no concealed weapons permit for Hursey but SLED has not confirmed whether they found any. Deputies also found several video poker machines inside Hursey's business. They're investigating to see if they were legal.
