Augusta, GA (WRDW, WLTX) -- There are new questions being raised about James Brown's body from at least one member of his family.
LaRhonda Pettit, Brown's illegitimate daughter, says the body is missing. She told a UK newspaper that the singer's body was moved from the crypt in Beech Island to avoid having an autopsy performed on it.
James Brown died in 2006, and now Pettit is suggesting foul play.
However, others close to the deceased singer deny her claims.
James Brown's daughter Deanna had this to say Friday about Pettit's claims: "I do not know where Ms. Pettit is getting her rumored information. This is a private matter for the family."
The owner of an Augusta funeral home told the Augusta Chronicle that "there's no truth to that" when asked about Petit's claim. He said the family hasn't notified authorties about a missing body, and that moving the body would require a permit.
The Aiken County Coroner's Office, which has jurisdiction in Beech Island, and David Bell, an attorney for some of the Brown family, both say they know nothing about the possibility of a missing body.
