Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Deborah Rubens, the woman injured in a vehicle collision with Columbia Mayor-Elect Steve Benjamin, is now recuperating at home, her attorney confirms.
Rick Detweiler tells News19 Rubens was released from the hospital earlier this month.
He says Rubens continues to recover, and that she is able to move around with the help of a walker.
Rubens was severely injured when Benajmin's SUV collided with her Toyota early in the morning on April 21. Rubens spent approximately six weeks in the hospital. Original Story: Mayor-Elect Involved in Collision
Earlier this month, the final report on the collision was released by the Columbia Police Department after it was reviewed by the Highway Patrol. The reports' conclusions led to a ticket for Benjamin for driving without his headlights, and to Rubens for operating an uninsured vehicle.
Rubens still needs help with her extensive medical bills. "The Deborah Jones Rubens Special Needs Trust Fund" has been set up to help her with her bills. People can donate to the fund at any First Citizens Bank.
