Authorities: 2 Dead in Fire at Gaffney Home

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been found dead after a house fire in Gaffney.

Firefighters were called to the scene across from Colonial Fish Camp at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Cherokee County coroner's office says a mother and daughter died in the fire. A 12-year-old boy escaped and was taken to a hospital. Details on his condition have not been released.

WSPA reports that the 12-year-old told authorities he saw his mother reenter the home in an attempt to rescue his sister, and did not come back out.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire.

The names of those killed have not been released.
