Bielema Glad To Have David Williams In The Fold

Arkansas head football coach Bret Bielema recruited David Williams when he was the head coach at Wisconsin. Now he and the former USC running back have come full circle.

Arkansas head football coach Bret Bielema had a good idea what David Williams would bring to his offense. The former USC running back who was on the market as a graduate transfer has landed in Fayetteville.

“He actually had come to visit me when I was at Wisconsin,' Bielema said.

"When I made the transition to Arkansas, I was on -- recruiting or thinking about recruiting David, but he went in a different direction and committed to South Carolina in the SEC. I made note of that. I knew where he's at, And then, you know, come full circle.”

Williams started five games in his three seasons at USC and left Columbia after rushing for 808 yards and scoring five touchdowns. In the summer of 2016, Williams fell out of favor with USC's new head coach and although he was able to work his way out of Will Muschamp's dog house, Williams never became a consistent workhouse.

When discussing Williams Monday at SEC Media Days, Bielema had high praise for the way Muschamp handled the transfer.

“They were very cooperative, didn't try to put a block on him or what not,” Bielema said.

“I think this young man was recruited by Coach Spurrier, brought in and things didn't go his way. He graduated on time and deserved an opportunity.”

Williams will be back in Columbia on October 7 when the Razorbacks face the Gamecocks.
