Councilman To Propose RCSD Run Columbia PD

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Monday morning Columbia City Councilman Cameron Runyan will offer a proposal to create a Unified City/County Police Service for the City of Columbia and Richland County.

Councilman Runyan plans to present his proposal to have the City of Columbia contract Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott to run the Columbia Police Department, at a 10:00AM press conference, "to create a more effective, unified police service."

The City of Columbia has been in search of a new permanent Chief of Police since former Chief Randy Scott stepped down in April of 2013, with Ruben Santiago handling the position in an interim capacity. The City began taking applications for the position in November.
