Boyfriend Charged with Murder in Death of Woman Left at Hospital

Officers say he shot Myra Sanchez, the left her in a wheelchair at a hospital.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have now charged a man with murder who they say killed his girlfriend, then left her outside a Columbia hospital.

Officers announced Monday upgraded charges against 23-year-old Albertus Lewis. He's facing not only a murder count, but also obstruction of justice.

Officers say back on July 5, Lewis dropped off 20-year-old Mayra Sanchez was dropped off at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Investigators say Lewis was Sanchez's boyfriend.

Deputies say he placed her in a wheelchair, then left the scene.

Initially he had been arrested on other charges related to the incident, but investigators say they found enough evidence to charge him with her death.

The  victim's family says Sanchez was a graduate of Richland Northeast and worked at Boost Mobile in West Columbia. Her mother, Guadalupe Sanchez, says the family had put a restraining order against Lewis about two months ago.
