Police: Suspects Offer Man a Ride, Then Rob Him

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police are searching for suspects who they believe beat up a man and robbed him over the weekend.

Investigators say the incident took place around midnight on April 11th.

The victim told officers he was walking in the 600 block of Saluda Avenue when a suspect and possibly two other men asked him if he needed a ride. When he got in their car, the suspects asked if he'd give them money for helping him.

The victim was taken to an ATM, where he withdrew $20 and gave it to the suspects, then walked away. Officers say the suspects assaulted him and took his wallet and ATM card.

His bank later told the victim that someone tried to use the card twice but wasn't successful.

Police have released a surveillance image of one of the suspects. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, or e-mail a tip in to www.midlandscrimestoppers.com.
