Deputies: Babysitter Shook Child, Caused Brain Injury

Krystal Johnson is accused of shaking the baby.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have charged a woman who they say severely shook a child she was babysitting because she wouldn't stop crying, causing a brain injury to the infant.

Krystal Johnson, 27, is charged with great bodily injury to a child.

Officers say back on September 28, they were called to Providence Hospital after getting a report that a two-month old girl had been brought there with severe injuries.

Investigators determined Johnson was babysitting the child when the incident took place. According to officers, the little girl wouldn't stop crying, and Johnson put the infant in a child car seat and began, in the words of officers, "shaking her viciously." Deputies say she then took the child out of the seat and shook the baby more with her hands.

When the mother came home, she said she noticed bruises on her child's face and took her to the hospital. Doctors say the girl suffered a severe brain injury.
