Deputies Bust Kershaw Meth-Making Operation

Kershaw County deputies have busted a meth manufacturing operation involving four people, according to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office.

Brent Allen Richardson (25), Jeffery Lewis Hopkins (27), and Donna Louise Louise Bennett (377), all of Kershaw, SC, and Robin A. Ruotolo (28) of Cassatt have been were arrested on Thursday and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. Hopkins is also charged with possession of methamphetamine

Deputies say their investigation began in June with a traffic stop, in which they seized chemicals used in the making of methamphetamine.

In a separate incident, deputies say they responded to a call at Oak Ridge Church Road in Kerhaw, where they discovered two one-pot meth labs along with chemicals and equipment used to make meth. Narcotics investigators were called to the scene, but were not able to make any arrests at the time. A hazmat crew was called to the scene to clean up the toxic waste produced by manufacturing methamphetamine.

Over the following two weeks, narcotics investigators say they conducted interviews and checked records to tie up loose ends in the investigation. In doing so, investigators say they determined that all four suspects were involved in the manufacturing of the methamphetamine.

Deputies say all four suspects were located and arrested at the same place and at the same time on Thursday.

According to investigators, three of the four had arrest records. Deputies say Richardson had previously been arrested for driving under suspension, grand larceny, burglary, failure to stop for a blue light, domestic violence and giving false information. Hopkins had previously been arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, DUI and breach of peace, deputies say. Ruotolo had previously been arrested for child endangerment and criminal mischief in New Jersey, according to investigators.
