Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a man who they say sexually assaulted two girls and a boy.
James Wesley McDaniel, 50, is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 and criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 16 3rd degree.
Deputies say McDaniel was connected to a relative of the victims, and got access to the kids.
In December of 2015, another relative of one of the children filed a report saying that McDaniel had inappropriately touched the little girl. The children were taken out of the home by social services, and McDaniel left the state for Hendersonville, NC with the children's relative who he had a relationship with.
Officers found the children's relative in Hendersonville last week, and determined that McDaniel had gone back to Kershaw County. Investigators say they found him homeless and living in a wooded area off U.S. 1.
Deputies say McDaniel gave a statement to them detailing his activities with the children.
The details of this case are too graphic and offensive to share with the public," Sheriff Jim Matthews said. "McDaniel indicated that he would have gone farther with his activities if he had not been caught, so his arrest certainly spared these children from additional and more serious sexual assaults.”
