Deputies: Belk Employee Breaks Finger Trying to Stop Shoplifter

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Richland County, SC (WLTX) -- One suspect is accused of causing an employee to break a finger after stealing from a Belk store, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies are searching for Benjamin Kearse, who they say is wanted for three counts of shoplifting an assault at the Belk located at 670 Promenade Place. Officers say there were three separate incidents where Kearse took numerous Polo shirts and jackets valued at about $1,400:

  • Sunday, October 2, 2016 Kearse stole seven Polo shirts valued at approximately $650
  • Wednesday, October 5, 2016 he took two sports jackets costing approximately $270
  • Friday, October, 28, he took two Polo jackets valued at about $500

Officials say Kearse pushed an employee and caused the person to break a finger while attempting to flee. This was all captured on surveillance video.
