Deputies: Suspect Stabbed Man for Dating Ex-Girlfriend

Officers say the man was upset because the victim was dating his ex-girlfriend.

Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a suspect who they say stabbed a man multiple times at a home.

Joseph Mathis, 23, is charged with attempted murder.

According to deputies, Mathis went to a home in Camden early Saturday morning to confront the victim. Officers say he'd been at a club, and was upset that the victim was dating his ex-girlfriend.

The homeowner asked Mathis to leave, but deputies say instead, he went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Deputies say he then walked back into the living room and attacked the victim, who was sitting in a recliner, and stabbed him in the head, back, and hand.

When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on the front porch, and Mathis inside the home smoking a cigarette. Officers say he was intoxicated.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
