Man Charged with Killing Ex-Wife, Leaving Her Body in Forest

The suspect has been identifed as 26-year-old James Ginther...who was arrested today in Kentucky. He's accused of kidnapping and then killing his ex-wife...27-year-old Suzette Ginther.

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County deputies say a woman's ex-husband shot and killed her, then left her body in a local forest.

Officers announced Monday afternoon the arrest of 26-year-old James Ginther in the death of 27-year-old Suzette Ginther. He's charged with kidnapping and murder.

James Ginther was taken into custody after he was arrested on Interstate 64 in Louisville, Kentucky around 4:30 a.m. Monday. He'd been stopped after he was involved in a minor traffic accident, and when authorities ran his information, they found out what he was wanted for.

The victim and the suspect were married, but had gotten legally divorced this year. The couple had two children, ages eight and six.

"It was a crime of passion, we believe," said Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis. "It was the nature of the crime and the evidence."

Suzette Ginther's body was found in a shallow grave off Burnt Gin Road in the Manchester National Forest in Sumter County last Thursday. The coroner determined she'd been shot in the head.

A weapon was recovered from the vehicle in Kentucky, and while authorities haven't definitively matched it to the crime, it was the same caliber as the one used in the killing, Dennis said.

The Cherryvale woman was originally reported missing Thursday morning by her boyfriend. But just hours after that report was filed, her body was found by a hunter.

Investigators say they're working to extradite James Ginther back to South Carolina. They're also processing the vehicle that he was found in.
