Former Springfield Mayor in Arrested

Springfield, SC (WLTX) - SLED agents arrested 50-year-old Marilyn Owens McCormick, the former mayor of Springfield, Tuesday on grand larceny charges.

McCormick is accused of unlawfully failing to pay $2,284 on her water bill to the town of Springfield while she was serving as the town's mayor. Investigators say the town council did not authorize her to receive free town water service at her residence.

According to the arrest warrant, McCormick did not pay for service between April 9, 2013 and March 15, 2016.

SLED began their investigation at the request of the First Circuit Solicitor's Office.

If convicted of the grand larceny charge, a judge could set a fine or sentence up to five years in prison.
