High School Students Charged in Drive-By Shooting

Charleston, SC (WLTX) - Two high school students in Charleston are facing charges after a drive-by shooting.

Justin Carroll and Jaelen Heyward, both 17, are charged with five counts of attempted murder, according to the Charleston Post and Courier. Police say both go to West Ashley High School.

The report says five juveniles were inside a car Wednesday night at a local recreation center when a car pulled up, and the people inside started firing shots in the direction of their vehicle. One of the bullets struck a tire on the car, but no one was injured.

The car then drove away. A witnessed followed the car and got its information, and police were able to catch up with the teens and arrest them in the car.

WCSC reports the shooting stemmed from a fight that had happened earlier in the day. The school district sent a statement that police would increase their security Thursday.
