Inmate Charged with Threatening Judge and Family

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- An inmate at Graham Correctional Institution for Women in Columbia is charged with making threats against a judge, his family and staff of a public defender's office.

Veda Sue Blevins, 35, is charged with two counts of threatening the life of a person or family of a public official, one count of intimidation of court officials, jurors or witnesses, and making a bomb threat.

SLED says the threats were made between April 1 and April 29. According to the arrest warrant, Blevins sent a letter to Circuit Court Judge Craig Brown and his wife in Florence. Investigators say several letters threatened the lives of Judge Brown, his wife and his children.

The arrest warrant also says another letter was sent between January 1 and January 31 threatening to kill all the public defenders in the Florence County office by placing a bomb in the building.

According to SLED Blevins confessed to making the threats.

She was serving a 40-month prison sentence for making bomb threats. According to the Department of Corrections, she would have been released on May 27.
