Lexington Father Charged in Death of 4-Year-Old Daughter

Officers say he didn't help the girl before it was too late. She later died.

Lexignton, SC (WLTX) - A Lexington father is now facing charges in connection with the death of his 4-year-old daughter.

David Lance Steadman, 24, is charged with homicide by child abuse.

His wife, 24-year-old Cynthia Estrada-Lopez, had previously been arrested and  charged with the death of the little girl.

Officers say Estrada-Lopez restrained the girl in her  bed, taped her mouth shut, and abandoned her back on July 31.

“Based on evidence collected since the death of the child, investigators believe Steadman returned home to find his daughter restrained in her bed and gasping for air the evening of July 31,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Steadman then waited about two hours before seeking medical attention for his daughter.”

Deputies say when paramedics arrived at the house later that night, the child was unresponsive. She later died at the hospital that night.

Koon said the investigation into the child’s death is still open.
