Richland County, SC (WLTX) - The two Richland County deputies that are featured on the A&E program "Live PD" each week will be in studio this Friday.
Deputy Chris Mastrianni and Sgt. Kevin Lawrence are traveling to New York City, where they'll join host Dan Abrams in the main studio.
Ordinarily, they're in the field, being shown responding to incidents throughout Richland County.
Since the beginning of the year, "Live PD" has followed officers from the sheriff's department, as well as other law enforcement agencies around the country, as they're on patrol. The show has built a following, with the show often being the talk of social media as the broadcast is taking place.
Never was that more true than this past Saturday, when Mastrianni was part of a pursuit of a suspect in north Columbia. The suspect's vehicle flipped, and after the accident, he got out of the vehicle with his two-year-old daughter in his hands.
He and Mastrianni struggled, but eventually he put the girl down, and Mastrianni was able to take the suspect in custody.
Almost as soon as the clip aired, people had a strong, emotional response to what they'd seen on social media. Mastrianni said he's been overwhelmed by the support he's gotten from the community.
A&E confirmed Wednesday it has renewed "Live PD" for another season.
