Man Arrested After TSA Finds Gun in Carry-on Bag at Charlotte Airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man after the Transportation Security Administration said he attempted to bring a loaded handgun on a plane Tuesday morning.

According to the TSA, the man was stopped by TSA officers at their checkpoint with a loaded .40 caliber handgun. Officers say they detected the gun and ammunition as the man was passing through the checkpoint via X-ray.

Officials say the gun was in the man’s carry-on bag.

The man, who has not been identified by TSA, was arrested by CMPD. He has been charged with carrying a firearm on airport property.

The TSA says passengers are permitted to travel with firearms, as long as they’re in checked baggage, unloaded, packed in a hard-sided case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition. The firearm must then be taken to the airline check-in counter.
