Man Arrested, Charged with 'Bootlegging' Moonshine

Fairfield county deputies have arrested Curtis Perry, 49, for possession of moonshine.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WLTX) - A Ridgeway man has been arrested for 'bootlegging' moonshine, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department.

Curtis Perry, 49, of Ridgeway was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of moonshine.

Investigators say they received numerous complaints about “bootlegging” from Mr. Perry’s residence.

When arrested, deputies say they seized large quantities of alcohol and moonshine, 9 firearms and more than $15,000 in cash.

“While alcohol offenses aren’t generally our most serious crimes, investigations such as these tend to generate information that leads to other more serious crimes and criminal organizations," said Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery.

Montgomery says his the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department has been partnering with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and the Union County Sheriff’s Office over the last several months to share information, manpower, and resources to combat drug crimes and other organized criminal activity throughout the counties.

"We have been very pleased with our partnerships with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and this is just a small example of the success that law enforcement can have when working together and sharing information," Montgomery said. "Criminals don’t have any jurisdictional boundaries and this partnership essentially allows us to operate among these counties without them."
