Odor in Popular Downtown Columbia Store Leads Police to Cash Stash, Narcotics in Apartment

COLUMBIA, SC (WLTX) - Officers seized more than $100K in cash along with narcotics from a Main Street Columbia loft Monday afternoon after complaints about the smell of marijuana in a business downstairs, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Brian Canty, 31, is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of a scheduled II controlled substance.

After receiving multiple complaints that Mast General Store on Main Street smelled like marijuana, Columbia's Organized Crime and Narcotics (OCN) Unit executed a search warrant at Canty's home directly above Mast General Store, according to investigators.

Investigators say when they searched Canty's home, located at the Lofts at Lourie's, they found narcotics and more than $115K in cash, all of which was seized as evidence.
