Midlands Woman Shot, Killed While Out of Town for a Funeral

GASTONIA, N.C. -- A woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning in a Gastonia neighborhood. 

Police responded to several calls of reported gunshots at 12:24 a.m. Saturday. The calls stated that the shots were heard on the 900 block of Nottingham Drive.

According to police reports, bullet holes were found on the front siding and in front windows of the residence.One person is reported to have been killed.

A family member told News19 that Jacobia Lane, 39, from Dalzell was inside the home, sitting on the couch when shots were fired. Lane was struck twice in the upper body.  We are told there were about 25 to 30 people, including children, inside the home at the time.

The family member said they are planning to have a vigil for the wife and mother of two at a relative's home in Rembert, SC. 

Police have stated that three vehicles were vandalized. The nature of the damage was not disclosed in the report.

Police have not made an arrest in the case at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect involved. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
