Sumter Teacher Accused Again

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Investigators with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office say middle school teacher Elizabeth Moss has been charged again.

This time she is charged with criminal solictiation of a minor. A boy, who was 13 at the time, has come forward.

Moss had previously been charged with inappropriately communicating with students online and performed sex acts on at least one of the students in the previous charges.

"She sexually assaulted one of the students, and at this time we're still interviewing witnesses," said Allen Dailey with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office after the first arrests.

Moss taught music at Chestnut Oaks Middle School since January 2013.

Investigators say the process of luring victims began when Moss started at the school. They have Facebook messages with "inappropriate content" sent between Moss and students.

"Those messages were with her and several of the witnesses and possible victims through Facebook," said senior investigator Darlene Dellinger. "One of the victims saved the messages from Ms. Moss and let the school access those messages."

The alleged act of sexual misconduct happened in April 2013. Investigators say Moss performed a sex act on a 13-year-old male student at her home.

"The students have been very forthcoming, that we've interviewed so far, and giving us the necessary information we need to go forward," said Dellinger. "They realize the seriousness of the crime."

Moss turned herself in Wednesday afternoon with her attorney, who released a statement saying the allegations came up after some students were disciplined.

Moss has not provided any statements to investigators.

The Sumter School District has placed Moss on administrative leave saying they "do not tolerate this type of behavior. All employees are expected to exercise good judgement and maintain professional boundaries when interacting with students at all times, both on and off school property."

"You're talking about a sexual predator targeting children of a young age and louring them to her house you know to have sex or sexual acts with them," Dailey said. "This is outrageous and we have to get to the bottom of it."
