Suspect Arrested in Robbery on Benedict Campus

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Benedict College Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a campus robbery.

Officers say they took 23-year-old Janerio Anso Walker into custody.

On Monday, officers say Walker robbed a group of people at the Benedict Community Park, located at the intersection of Hyatt and Laurel Street. Benedict Police Chief Haywood Bazemore says Walker took cell phones, credit cards, and money from the victim.

The suspect and two other people then drove away from the scene in a Dodge Ram pickup.

The next day, police found the truck that Walker was in at a gas station on Two Notch Road and Taylor Street. While searching the vehicle, officers say they recovered a gun.

The two other people inside the truck during the robbery are not yet charged in connection with the crime, but Bazemore says the investigation is ongoing.

Bazemore says several police agencies are also checking to see if Walker may be connected to other recent campus robberies at Allen University, Benedict and the University of South Carolina.
