Suspect's Car, Deputy's Car Catch Fire Following Chase

Richland County Deputies have arrested a man following a high speed chase.

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - (WLTX) A man's car and deputy's vehicle caught fire after a chase occurred down Garners Ferry Road Saturday morning, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies say at around 1 a.m., Stanley Jackson, 40, refused to stop and took off at a high rate of speed when a deputy attempted to pull him over. Jackson's 2008 Nissan caught fire after crashing at Crossing Hill Drive at Devine Street.

Deputies say fuel from Jackson's car spread to the deputy's vehicle. The deputy's car did catch fire, but there were no serious damages.

Jackson was transported to a local for observation and was later arrested on several charges including failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, habitual offender and possession of crack/cocaine.
