Car Stolen with Twin Girls Inside; Girls Now Safe

Atlanta police are searching for the person who took a car from a gas station with two children inside.

ATLANTA -- Two toddlers are safe after the car they were in was stolen from an Atlanta gas station late Saturday just before midnight.

Atlanta police said the theft happened at a gas station in the 3300 block of Martin Luther King Drive SW in Atlanta.

That's where police said the victim went inside the store and left his vehicle running. His twin 1-year-old daughters were still in the vehicle.

The suspect took advantage of the situation, taking the vehicle and fleeing east on Martin Luther King Blvd. before abandoning the car at 62 Harwell Drive.

When police found the vehicle, they said both children were still in their car seats. However one of the car seats was outside of the vehicle.

The children were eventually reunited with their father and taken to Children's Healthcare at Egleston for evaluation.

The vehicle was also processed by crime scene investigators before being released by to the owner.
