South Congaree, SC (WLTX) -- Police have arrested a 24-year-old Columbia woman and charged her for the death of a four-year-old girl.
Officers with the South Congaree Police Department arrested Caitlin Elisabeth Braun and charged her with felony DUI involving a death and felony DUI involving great bodily injury.
The accident that Braun was charged in left four-year-old Gabrielle Shumate dead and her father, 33-year-old Devin P. Shumate, in the hospital.
Officers say the collision happened at about 8:20 p.m. on May 16 in the 600 block of Ramblin Road. They say a 2002 Nissan driven by Braun was involved in a head-on collision with a 2006 Kia driven by Mr. Shumate.
Investigators say Braun had been serving alcoholic beverages to golfers at Indian River Gold Course in West Columbia before the collision.
Officers are conducting an investigation into what led up to the collision and they are asking the community for further information.
