Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have released new information about a fatal shooting that left a woman dead and her husband behind bars.
Jeffery Adam Martinez, 31, is charged with murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in the death of his estranged wife, 31-year-old Ginger Anne Martinez.
Officers say the shooting took place Thursday night at a home on Hayes Street in Gilbert. According to deputies, Ginger Martinez came to the home to take custody of their children. The two began arguing, and as the fight escalated, deputies say Jeffery Martinez shot his wife in the upper body with a shotgun. Investigators say that the children were sent outside to their mother's car when the argument began, and didn't witness the shooting.
After the shooting, deputies say Jeffery Martinez called 9-1-1 and said he had killed his wife.
The couple's children are now in Department of Social Services custody. Friday afternoon, deputies were able to reach the victim's parents. No word yet on when or if custody would be transferred to family.
