Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- State Law Enforcement Division agents have arrested the former fire chief in Darlington, claiming he used prison inmates as labor for private projects.
James C. Stone, 71, is charged with misconduct in office.
Stone was the City of Darlington's Fire Chief since 1984.
On June 18th a former fire department employee alleged Stone was improperly using inmates, and as the state launched an investigation Stone was placed on paid administrative leave June 20th.
