Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have arrested a man they say strangled a woman to death.
Darrell Lydell Griffin, 49, is charged with murder in the death of 44-year-old Johnette Pratt.
Deputies say on Tuesday, Griffith called their department, then showed up in person, to report a crime. According to investigators, Griffith claimed that he and Pratt had been the victims of a crime.
Investigators, though, say that wasn't the case. Around 8 p.m., a church member at Christian Faith Fellowship Church on Alpine Road called deputies to say there had been a car in the church parking lot that had caught on fire. When deputies responded and looked inside the vehicle, they found Pratt's body.
Investigators believe the car fire was intentionally set.
The coroner's office later determined the woman died from manual strangulation.
Griffith was taken to the Richland County jail, where he waist for a bond hearing.
