Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a suspect they stole a man's moped and killed him in the process.
Willie Thomas Starnes, 32, is charged with armed robbery and murder.
Deputies say on August 24th, 67-year-old Alan Thomas Robinson was hit by a vehicle on Freeman Road. At the scene, Robinson said that he was riding his moped down the road when he heard a vehicle behind him speed up just before he was hit. After crashing and behing knocked off his vehicle, Robinson said he saw Starnes and another person take his moped and load it up into an SUV.
Officers say Starnes and the other man provided no help to Robinson. Investigators concluded Starnes intentionally hit Robinson's moped.
Emergency Services employees took Robinson to Kershaw Health Hospital first, and he was later transported to Palmetto Health Hospital where he died.
A tip lead officers to Starnes; in fact, officers say they found him walking near the scene of the accident two days after it happened.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says Starnes stole the moped so he could sell it and buy crack cocaine with the money.
Starnes's accomplice has not been found.
