West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A man is facing involuntary manslaughter charged in connection with a fatal apartment fire in West Columbia last month.
Daniel Dupuy, 47, of West Columbia was taken into custody.
Back on September 12th, a fire consumed a large portion of the Granby Oaks Apartments. Jay Gross, 65, was unable to get out of his unit and died at the scene. Previous Coverage: 1 Dead in Apartment Fire | 'The Flames Were Rising, Jumping'
Investigators determined the fire was not set intentionally. However, according to an arrest warrant, Dupuy was in an apartment when the fire began on a kitchen countertop. Officers say he didn't call 9-1-1, try to put the fire out, or let his neighbors know about the fire.
The warrant calls his actions "negligence" and a "reckless disregard for the safety of others."
Depuy is currently waiting on a bond hearing.
