Columbia, SC (WLTX) - When the Richland County Libraries ran out of the eclipse glasses Friday morning, people were left on a search to find any of the remaining eyewear in Columbia.
Over seven thousand glasses were given out at all the libraries but some people didn't get the word that they were all out.
"I bought a couple of pair but determined that they were fake so I wanted to find some legitimate ones and I heard the library was the place to look. Unfortunately they were out to so my search will continue."
Although people were out of luck after noon at the Richland County Library on Assembly Street, the staff at the library sent people to different spots to find the glasses in Columbia.
The search led Kathriana Burnatt to the Drew Wellness Center.
"It was really good because everybody has been charging for them. People want to pay big dollars for them but I got some for free," laughed Burnatt.
Burnatt's friend Amari Martin said she's glad the search is over so she can enjoy the eclipse.
"It's been hectic. Everybody's been searching for them. This is a once in a lifetime event that I don't think anyone is going to want to miss," said Martin.
The Drew Wellness Centers says they recently got a thousand of the glasses at the center and are giving them out for free.
All people have to do is read the instructions for the glasses to be educated for the event and they can get the pair. Each individual will be limited two per person to make sure more people can get the glasses. They believe the glasses will be gone by the end of the weekend.
