Blythewood, SC (WLTX) - Round Top Elementary School is using duct tape to teach their students an important lesson in helping others.

On Tuesday, the principal, Jeaneen Tucker, found herself in a sticky situation, as she allowed students to duct tape her to the cafeteria wall.

"We're gonna stick Ms. Tucker to the wall!" exclaimed a first grader.

The stunt wasn't just so students could have fun, they were also helping fight cancer.

"We're trying to support, um, people who have leukemia," said a little boy named Parker.

It's called Pennies for Patients, and through February, the school's media specialist, Cindy Symonds, helps coordinate fund raising events.

"We're two weeks into our campaign and we've raised a little over 2,300 dollars," said Symonds. "Service learning projects, like this one, tie them and make them become a part of the bigger world at large and a world citizen."

On Tuesday, students could pay one dollar for one foot of duct tape... then they stuck it to Tucker, who was the main attraction.

"This is our annual Stuck On Tucker Day," explained Tucker.

These fundraising events are personal to her.

"My husband is now a survivor of multiple myeloma."

"We have a first grade student named Ashton," added Symonds, "and Ashton has battled leukemia."

"We actually were doing this particular fund before those two things happened, but it certainly has become more personalized to Round Top now," said Tucker.

The kids who took part, may not realize it yet, but with every rip and stick of duct tape, they're sticking it to cancer.

At the end of the month, the class who raises the most money will have a free pasta party from The Olive Garden. The money raised will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
