WLTX Teacher of the Week: Beth Reilly

Beth Reilly is an early childhood educator at Harbison West Elementary School.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) --  Beth Reilly has known since she was a middle school student that she wanted to be a teacher. She knew specifically that she wanted to work with special needs students, and every day for the last 11 years that dream has been a reality.

As an early education teacher for 3- and 4-year-olds at Harbison West Elementary School in Lexington Richland School District 5, her primary responsibility is helping her students learn how to function in a classroom setting.

Reilly says she takes pride in being her students, "first teacher and developing the home/school relationship with their parents."

Reilly, along with fifth grade teacher Brenna Lampney, developed "Project Awesome" several years ago. It's a partnership with fifth-graders, that allows them to become buddies with the primary students.

They work closely with the students during guided activities with their teachers. The students have even been allowed to develop their own lesson plans. It's truly a win-win situation for everyone involved.
