Gas Stations Raise Money to Support the Troops

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -Close to half a million dollars has been raised by local gas stations looking to support the troops.

This is the second year for the campaign initiative called Salute the Troops that the Kangaroo Gas Stations are putting on.

Between now and September 4th, they are asking their customers to donate money to help support our troops and their families. So far this year, our state has raised more than $480,000, twice the amount that was raised at the same point last year.

Second District Congressman Joe Wilson stopped by a Columbia Kangaroo Gas station to congratulate the employees on their work so far.He says efforts like this show how muchthe statecares about our military.

Funds raised in the state directly benefit the USO of South Carolina, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the South Carolina Military Family Care Association.
