West Nile Detected in Columbia Mosquitoes

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - State health leaders say a sample of mosquitoes trapped in the Shandon neighborhood in Columbia have tested positive for the West Nile virus.

Experts say it is not uncommon for mosquitoes to be found carrying the virus in our state. it serves as a reminder to take precautions to prevent mosquito breeding grounds.

Most people infected with West Nile virus have no symptoms.

South Carolina has identified multiple cases of West Nile infection in people so far this year, including two in Richland County.
