Kids with Special Needs Take on Lake Murray

A group of special needs kids took over Lake Murray today tubing, water skiing and kayaking.

Chapin, SC (WLTX) - A group of kids didn't let their disabilities stop them from fast paced action on the water at Lake Murray on Friday.

Limitless Sports, a group that helps kids with special needs do sports, took over 100 kids kayaking, tubing, and water skiing.

"They get to do things that their brothers and sisters do everyday and they love it," said Laurie Peterson, one of the organizers.

"Oh it's great," said Michelle Long, one of the parents, "it's great that he can do this because otherwise he wouldn't be able to do it."

"They're doing things that may seem impossible," said Rochelle Gadson, another parent.

Gadson says she never thought her daughter would be able to do anything like this.

"She's paralyzed from the chest down," Gadson said, "when you have a group of people who are sensitive to the needs of kids who have a disability it takes that weight off your shoulders."

Peterson says it's all worth it to see the happiness it brings to the kids.

"When you see some of those kids taking on water and they're just laughing and having a good time, it scares us a little bit, but they're having a ball," Peterson said.
