Harman served as the Coroner for Lexington County since 1977, though his recovery from the injuries sustained in the car crash last year took their toll, causing an extended stay in an area hospital's trauma unit.

Coroner Harman graduated from Lexington High School in 1954, and after attending Newberry College and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, made his life in the Midlands, first with the creation of the Harman Funeral Home, and later as County Coroner.

He played an integral part in the creation of Lexington's county-wide disaster plan and response team, and worked to grow the County's Coroner's Office to eleven full and parttime employees.

Harman has two daughters, and a number of grandchildren.
