1 Dead After I-26 Accident in Orangeburg County

Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - One person is dead after a collision in Orangeburg County Friday morning.

Troopers say the accident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Interstate 26 at mile marker 159.

Highway patrol says the accident involved a 2007 Sterling Tractor Trailer carrying paint and paint thinner and 2005 Chrysler SUV.

The driver of the tractor trailer died on scene. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to the hospital.

Investigators say both of the drivers were wearing their seat belt.

For precautionary reasons, the Department of Health and Environmental Control was called in to assist.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol's MAIT team is now investigating.
