Columbia, SC (WLTX) The 9th tropical storm of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season continues to develop in the Mid-Atlantic Ocean.
As of Tuesday morning, the center of Tropical Storm Ian was located about 980 miles ESE of Bermuda. Ian is moving toward the north-northwest at 9 mph. A faster northward motion is expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds remain around 45 mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles (370 km) from the center with estimated minimum central pressure of 1005 mb.
The projected track from The National Hurricane Center has the tropical storm staying in the Mid to North Atlantic Ocean over the next several days.
