Hundreds attended the annual Veterans Day parade in Columbia. Veteran Robert Price and said getting drafted was one of the greatest things that ever happened to him

Columbia, SC (WLTX) – Hundreds attended the 39th annual Veterans Day Parade including an 86-year-old veteran who says getting drafted was one of the best things that has ever happened to him.

“It means all of life to me. What could I do without the freedom that I enjoy today?” Sergeant Major (Ret.) Robert Price said dressed in his Army uniform.

He has served a total of 35 years both active and reserve.

“I did not really volunteer to go in, I was drafted into the army, which was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me,” the veteran explained.

He was drafted back in 1952.

He said Veterans Day is a holiday he holds dear to his heart.

“It gives us the opportunity to pause and thank the other personnel, the military personnel, who have served our country to maintain a freedom in this great nation,” he said.
