Baby Dies After Being Found at Sumter's Iris Gardens

Sumter police are investigating the death of a one year old boy at Swan Lake Iris gardens in Sumter

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter Police say an infant boy has died after he was found at Swan Lake Iris Gardens Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics were called to the gardens around 3:15 p.m. for a call of a child who was found unresponsive. Emergency personnel tried to revive the one-year-old, and took the child to the hospital, but doctors pronounced the boy dead a short time later.

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Bake identified the boy as Mekhi Rembert  We're told he had just celebrated his one-year birthday two weeks ago. 

Police say the child's mother was questioned as part of the investigation. Investigators say they're trying to determine the circumstances of the child's death.
